North Toronto is an informal district in the northern part of the Old Toronto District in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. When Toronto was amalgamated in the year 1998, the North Toronto neighbourhood located at the north part of the old city was made to occupy a central location with new city boundaries.
North Toronto became a popular streetcar suburb with the area being completely developed by the 1940s. The formal interurban or radial railway, Metropolitan line, was replaced by Toronto’s Yonge Street streetcar line extending through North Toronto. In 1954, the streetcar was replaced by Toronto Transit Commission’s Yonge subway and was later on replaced by a subway station the year 1973.

– Kate Buckman located at Mount Pleasant near Eglinton for many years until it closed in 2007, was once the largest bridge club in North America.
Construction of residential condominiums increased rapidly making the neighbourhood’s population dense. In spite of these major changes, North Toronto retained its identity as a neighbourhood. Today, North Toronto is relatively speaking a rich community and is also very popular among families with school-age children.
